White Teeth

Wow, has it really been FOUR months since my last post?!  I guess I shouldn't be that surprised.  I am quite the expert at getting extremely excited about starting a new project, and then having it slowly start collecting dust in the closet of my subconsciousness labeled, "New and Exciting... please don't forget about us!"  :)

Well, I am happy to announce that I made it through White Teeth**, and as of 9:00 p.m. this evening, actually finished reading the entire book!  I should probably mention, I am also an expert at getting extremely excited about starting a new book, and quietly putting aside the one I have already gotten half-way through in the midst of a momentary loss of interest.  (Note to self: perseverance is also a virtue; put more effort into achieving more of it, at least when it comes to reading.)

SO, in an effort to get away from this habit I've fallen into, I've decided to REALLY try to finish a book, and not start on another one until I'm done.  I had been doing really well when I finished, surprisingly quickly, Running with Scissors (which I definitely recommend!)  But White Teeth, by Zadie Smith, has been my most recent accomplishment in my path towards "reading perseverance".  While this book was a DEFINITE page-turner in the beginning, with its multitude of colorful characters, and the delicious, intricate way Smith connects each one--full of drama and scandal, the interest falls by the way-side right when I need my interest piqued the most-- the last fifty pages... noooo!!!  Either way, I have finished it... so I've decided to mark this personal milestone with a new blog entry.  Finishing a book... and reviving the momolicious blog--now that's what I call killing two birds with one stone.  :)

**Have you read this book?  I am open to any comments if you have... and always open to any new reading material recommendations.

Crochet Obsession

Good-bye half-summer of 2010, hello autumn and my yearly crochet obsession!  As much as I adore the summer and its warm fun in the sun, there's a special place in my heart for this time of year.  Here comes the chilly air of the upcoming holiday season,  cozy nights on the couch under fuzzy fleece blankets with my mug of Bailey's and hot chocolate to warm the soul... and, of course, crochet!!  Hooray!  :)

Yes, as my boyfriend affectionately (I hope...) calls me, I am a nerd... but a very crafty one.  And this year, with my artistic ambition burning bright, I have decided to share my love for crochet with all of you.

Here is project #1... Peanut the Jellyfish

Ok, it's not the best photo, but who has time to take a decent photo when there are critters to be crocheted?  Anywho, I have been a little rusty, and with Peanut here, I'm just getting warmed up.  Get ready for some fun and possibly delicious-looking crochet creations coming your way very soon!

The simple things... LIVE music

There are days when I'm feeling on top of the world = me + warm sunny day outdoors + good company + wonderfully refreshing beverage or deliciously scrumptious chocolatey dessert.  :)

And days when that one lonely raincloud in the entire sky has decided to choose this one day to follow me and my misery around.  It happens.  BUT, in all attempts not to let it rain on my parade, I've decided to pay homage to those simple things in life... days of good vibes and fun memories in the simplest of forms... and so it begins..

Enjoying a wonderful evening of live music, even if (or especially because) it's on a Monday night
Radars to the Sky at Spaceland

I LOVE this band!  The lead guitarist's rock-out shuffle-dance, and the keyboardist's on-going so-happy smile are the best.  (You really have to see them live to know and appreciate what I'm talking about).   I've only had the pleasure of enjoying their incredible music on two occasions, but they are fantastic!  It's really an amazing thing when a band whose music you're not too familiar with, really gets your energy going and dancing to the beat.  I look forward to your next energetically charged show, Radars to the Sky!

Ta-dah!

I admit it... I do LIKE that "I don't get enough sleep because I stay up late for no reason"-- it stands proudly on my Facebook profile page.  But one night, I decided "that's enough!  No more doing things just because!"  OK, I didn't really say that--sometimes a meaningless, late-night web sesh is one of the small joys of life.

Instead, I decided to change things up a bit, and dedicate my late-night insomnia to a long-time dream (or more like delirious impulse) to the start of a new blog... oh-so momolicious!  I can't promise how long it's going to be up, or how dedicated I will be to the up-keep, but I will say, on those nights when sleep evades you, and you just can't look at another youtube video of whatever randomness (who am I kidding, that never gets old!), I welcome you to MY page of whatever randomness.  If anything, it'll satisfy the voyeuristic tendencies we all try to suppress, even if only for a few minutes (at this point, only a few seconds.. but trust me.. more blogs to come!)

Please see below for official introduction...thanks for stopping by!  Muchas gracias and good night!

And so it begins...
